Safety
Relief Valves
 |
They
relieve pressures, liquid or vapor, that exceed the design pressure of
a tank or piping system. |
 |
They
have a finite life span due to the rubber seat; expiration noted on
valve. |
 |
They
are fitted with plastic caps to prevent contamination and as an
indication that a valve has opened. |
 |
They
are mounted on a three-way valve manifold allowing one valve to be
open and the other isolated. |
Hydrostats
 |
They
are installed on a piping system wherever liquid can get trapped in
the line to release the liquid and prevent a hydrostatic eruption. |
 |
If
a hydrostat leaks, a second hydrostat can be threaded into the first
one making it unnecessary to drain the line for replacement. |
Tank
Filling Valves
 |
They
are the valves the vapor and liquid hoses are connected to when
filling a storage tank. |
 |
They
are fitted with protective caps to prevent contamination and to
identify ammonia liquid and vapor connections. The liquid cap is
orange and the vapor cap is yellow. |
 |
Vapor
Connection: Controls the delivery pressure differentials by
transferring vapor from one tank to another. |
 |
Liquid
Connection: Controls liquid withdrawal. |
 |
A
vent valve should be installed between the fill valve and the
protective cap to relieve pressure before protective cap is removed. |
Vent
Valves
 |
They
are installed to relieve pressure before a valve is
opened. |
Excess
Flow Valves
 |
They
are connected to all piping and hose connections to prevent a massive
release in the event of a catastrophic line break; NH3 only. |
Pressure
Gauges
 |
They
measure the pressure inside a tank, usually a range of 0 - 400
psi. |
85%
Outage Gauge
 |
They
indicate when a tank reaches the 85% liquid level. Trace vapors
are released when liquid level is below 85%; A puff of white smoke is
released when liquid level is at or above 85%. |
Liquid
Level Gauge
 |
Liquid
level gauge reads the percent (%) of total tank capacity.
Capacity of tank (gallons) times the percent reading equals gallons. |
Rotogauges
 |
They
measure the liquid level of a tank. You take the average of
clockwise and counterclockwise readings. |
 |
When
the dip tube reaches below the liquid level a puff of white smoke
appears. |
Pressure
Transmitter
 |
It
transmits the pressure readings to the PLC to display on the screen
for operators. |
Level
Transmitter
 |
It
transmits the level readings to the PLC to display on screen for
operators. |
Temperature
Transmitter
 |
It
transmits the temperature readings to the PLC to display on screen for
operators. |
